Northern Renaissance Painting

The original pannel pieces of the art

Pannel we will be focusing on

Jan Van Eyck's piece Ghent Altarpiece "Adoration of the Lamb" the center piece was completed in 1432 in Saint Bavo Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium. Religious paintings were heavily influenced during this time, This is one of the most realistic (realism) paintings of the time using oil paints which Jan had perfected. He uses a lot of texture in his paintings and the color pallet is mostly greens and neutral colors and red and blues. This paintings feels important by the color choices for the attention to detail,You can see the detail in every piece of clothing, the lamb and the block that the lamb stands on. It gives off a sense of power. I would not have this in my house or own anything like this.

Analysis

This piece was made by Jan Van Eyck and his brother Hubert Van Eyck, The art piece was placed in the Cathedral May 6th,1432. His Brother Hubert was the main one to work on this piece but Jan had finished it, The painting was inspired by religion, since during this time Religous paintings were most popular,it was the first major oil painting transitioning from the middle age to the renissance, The renissance focused on Biblical tales, everyday life, landscapes and more. The Reinvention of Rome By The Catholic Church i feel as though really influnced during this time because of the transitioning between ages and the balance of the church, along with a whole new era that was surfacing. The lamb of god represents the center piece of this pannel, the whole picture is of a biblical scene, which relates to the Catholic church and the stories of the bible. There are 14 angles surrounding the lamb as a sacrifice with a couple of others. The religon feeling is very important to inspect especially during this time frame, as Relgion was the biggest topic and very touchy subject. This was known as the turning point with the dipiction of religon art even though it was a tradition of the time.

Classical Era blog The Growing Economic Power of the Middle Class

Background  During The Growing Economic Power of the Middle Class in the 1700s artists started transitioning to making paintings of everyday life, landscapes, and portraits of middle-class people. The rise of wealth made it so that more individuals could afford commissions. The artworks below will show examples of everyday life, portraits and landscapes. The growing economic power of the middle class helped artists be able to profit and sell their paintings for more. Since the industry was offering  more jobs, more people worked and were able to spend large amounts of money either responsibly or irresponsibly.                                             Artworks    Marriage A-la-Mode: 1, The Marriage Settlement William Hogarth made a series of six p...

Art Analysis

About this art      Claude Monet's work has always been simple but also complicated, it uses a lot of color, space, and texture. The image below is one of his famous paintings Waterlilies and Japanese Bridge. In this piece this artist used his space very uniquely, This gives off a lot of dimensions the bridge takes up the most space but you can see it in the setting, and the pond gives off the most depth with the lilys The color palette is demonstrated is very limited mostly greens but it brings out the contrast in the flowers and the bridge, with a darker background and lighter front. Without a good color palette it's hard to achieve what you want in a painting it sets the mood. Texture is another vital part of this, without the textures given mostly in the background it gives off a certain tone to the setting, without texture you would not be able to tell those were trees and branches in the background even though they are not very detailed it still sets the mood for th...

Preferences and Perspectives - The Romantic Era

The Romanticism Era lasted from around the late 18th century through the mid-19th century. It originated in Europe before spreading to other parts of the world, some styles that came out of this were Realism, Impressionism, and Post Impressionism. They wanted to express emotions being able to feel what you see in the paintings when looking at them. I will be presenting four paintings comparing Impressionism and Realism.                                                                                 Impressionism  Impressionism in simple terms is practicing painting our doors at random or spontaneously rather than being in a studio or making out your own sketches. This style is my favorite, It feels natural and more personal t...
